Dr. Amit Sharma is a board certified physician who specializes in interventional spine and pain management. He is the Medical Director at Minimally Invasive Center of New York.
Dr. Sharma is also serving as the Chief of the Division of Pain Management at Good Samaritan University Hospital. He is the founder and Director of SpinePain Solutions.
Dr. Sharma has garnered recognition from his colleagues for his expertise, dedication, and remarkable professional journey. Over the past several years, Castle Connolly, New York Magazine, and Newsday have all bestowed honors upon him, designating him as one of the foremost Pain Management physicians in the United States. In addition, he has consistently received accolades such as the “Patients Choice Awards” and the “Compassionate Doctor Award” for numerous years. Dr. Sharma is a lifelong member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and actively participates in various national and international pain societies.
Dr. Sharma completed his anesthesiology residency at The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City, where he was recognized as the outstanding resident of the year. Following this, he pursued fellowship training in interventional pain medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he received the distinguished Pfizer best fellow of the year award. Before transitioning to private practice, Dr. Sharma held the position of Assistant Professor at Columbia University.
With a record of over 25,000 interventional procedures, Dr. Sharma specializes in diagnosing and managing issues related to the back and neck, as well as addressing neuropathic and cancer-related pain. His focus extends to ischemic pain and concerns associated with peripheral vascular disease. Dr. Sharma possesses expertise in neuromodulation (specifically spinal cord stimulation), intrathecal drug delivery systems, and various minimally invasive spine procedures such as Kyphoplasty, Intradiscal Electrothermy, Nucleoplasty, MILD, Intracept, Endoscopic Discectomy and Rhizotomy) and radiofrequency ablative procedures. Additionally, he is proficient in radiofrequency ablative procedures. Together with the other physicians at SpineCare Long Island, Dr. Sharma advocates for non-operative approaches, including physical therapy, chiropractic manipulations, and acupuncture.
Dr. Sharma has a substantial body of work published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to numerous textbook chapters. He has been a featured speaker at several national pain meetings and has conducted research in the area of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS or RSD). His team at Johns Hopkins received a financial grant to conduct the largest study on CRPS patients, the results of which were published in a prestigious journal. As a member of the teaching faculty, where he has trained residents and fellow doctors, Dr. Sharma is deeply committed to the educational aspect of his profession. He holds the belief in patient education as a priority, dedicating time to thoroughly explain every facet of their treatment plan.
